About CANA Membership
The CANA Network is made up of over 150 civil society organisations working together to protect people from climate change and its impacts, to safeguard our natural environment, and to build a fairer and healthier Australia for everyone. On this page you’ll find information about how CANA and the Network operates, key strategies that guide our work, FAQs and more.
-
The CANA Strategic Plan aims to clarify the central role of CANA and identifies the areas of organisational development necessary to succeed as a backbone institution for the movement.
-
The Network Strategy sets the goals, strategies and priority campaign collaborations that the Australian climate movement will utilise from 2021 to 2023. We are more powerful when we collaborate and work together. We encourage you to embed these goals into your organisations work plans.
The Network Strategy is developed by our members. We will begin drafting a new iteration in 2023 so feel free to provide any feedback on the current strategy to info@cana.net.au
-
The CANA Network Support Team’s (NST) role is to provide the space, tools and leadership that brings the climate movement together. The NST supports our members to engage in the network and identify new opportunities for collaboration.
When you become a CANA member you will be assigned an NST point person who will be your key point of contact. If you don’t know who your NST point person is drop us a line at info@cana.net.au.
Find out who is who within the NST here.

We have a number of online forums where most of the communication between our members happens. These forums are where you can keep on top of what is happening in the movement and communicate with other members.
We have Community Guidelines, to ensure that we all have standards of communication and engagement to operate under.
CANASlack
CANAslack is our network wide slack channel. It is a space for collaboration and conversation on specific issues and how you can connect with other members. We have multiple channels relating to specific topis and there is a channel for each CANA Working Group.

How to upgrade or downgrade my membership
To upgrade: Send an email to your NST point person or to info@cana.net.au requesting that you would like to upgrade your membership. Your request will be reviewed by our Members committee and our Board at the next Board meeting following your request.
To downgrade: Send email email to your NST point person or to info@cana.net.au requesting that you would like to downgrade your membership and we will process your new fee.
How do I pay my membership fees?
Membership fees are issued via an invoice that you will receive via email. If you would like your invoice to be received by a particular person or team send an email to info@cana.net.au.
Member fee invoices are issued annually in July to cover the July-June financial year period. If a member joins part way through a financial year, their member fee invoice is issued pro rata to cover the remainder of that financial year.
How do I submit an idea for a Brown Bag Lunch webinar?
You may have heard of our Brown Bag Lunches, which are informal presentations from members on important topics across the movement. All members are welcome to submit ideas; we rely on members to deliver the content while we organise the facilitation and administration.
My organisation doesn’t have an ACN - does that impact our membership?
It is an ASIC requirement that members who can vote in CANA annual governance meetings have an ACN. This is the only consequence of not having an ACN - we list your organisation as an unincorporated member.
How do I contact another CANA Member?
Please email us at info@cana.net.au with a Member you’d like to contact and why - so we can introduce you. Take a look at the Campaign Map to see where your campaigns align across the Network.
